Little did North Carolina native, Rachel Oliver-Cobbin know, when she was singing in church at age four, that today, she’d be a much sought after conference motivational speaker and psalmist, singing and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Moving to Las Vegas just five years ago, she has performed in venues, theaters and hotels throughout the city including Myron’s and the Troesh Studio Thesater at the Smith Center, The West Las Vegas Library Theater and Treasure Island. She recorded a tribute song during the pandemic written by our Merald Bubba Knight, Jr. entitled THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE, on the Pipco Music Family Label, and played the role of Sophia in the Broadway in the Hood production of The Color Purple.
Rachel is a veteran entertainer with over 35 years of experience in the entertainment industry, having won numerous awards, and titles. She is an accomplished singer, performer, actress, beauty queen and entrepreneur. She began competing in scholarship pageants at the age of fifteen and by 1985 had won seven titles. In 1986 Rachel was crowned Miss Black Massachusetts and then went on to earn the1986 Miss Black America crown. She will be returning to the pageant as a judge and performer in Atlantic City this December for the 55th Annual Competition.
From 1986 to 2002 Rachel worked as an actress and singer in regional theater and national tours of many Broadway shows including “Your Arms Too Short to Box with God”, and Little Shop of Horrors”. During this time, Oliver-Cobbin won the Los Angeles Ovation Award for Best Ensemble in the California premiere of the Broadway musical Swing, in the role of Ann Hampton Calloway! Her work as a voiceover artist includes television, movies and radio. Her collaboration with Emmy Award-winning composer Scott Liggett landed her on a radio jingle that earned her the National Silver Microphone Award. In 1991, she became the fourth female lead vocalist for internationally renowned R&B recording artist, Atlantic Starr debuting on their Warner Brothers Reprise album, Love Crazy that produced one of the biggest hits of the group's career, Masterpiece. She recorded five albums with the band, one of which was the Arista Records soundtrack for the blockbuster movie, Home Alone. Lady Rachel toured with the group extensively throughout the country and around the world, sharing the stage with the likes of the Mighty O’Jays, Cameo, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross and Patti Labelle to name a few. Her television appearances include Soul Train, Showtime at the Apollo, The Arsenio Hall Show, Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon and most recently TV One’s award-winning docudrama series Unsung.
